Tokyo, June27, 2025 – Japan Investment Corporation (“JIC”) has announced its decision to makean LP investment of JPY3.5 billion in Genesia Venture Fund IV InvestmentLimited Partnership (“GV-4”), which is managed by Genesia Ventures, Inc.(“Genesia”).

JIC’s mission is to create a virtuouscycle of risk capital that supports the next generation of domestic industriesby providing funds to help companies grow and strengthen their competitivenessthrough open innovation, promotion of private investment, and the developmentof investment professionals. To achieve its mission, JIC invests in policy-relevantstrategic business areas through LP investments in funds under JIC’s umbrellaand in private funds.

 

About LPinvestment in GV-4

(1) Current status ofinvestment market

Thecreation of global unicorns—defined as privately held companies with anenterprise value of USD1 billion or more—requires long-term, large-scale riskcapital investment in the seed and pre-seed stages in order to expand the poolof promising startups.

Moreover, in business sectors where Japanese companies can maintain their internationalcompetitiveness and in fields where demand is expected to grow bothdomestically and internationally over the medium to long term, Japanesecompanies are expected to leverage the cutting-edge digital technologies andbusiness models of startups in Southeast Asia and India, where digitaltransformation (DX) is advancing, to create new businesses. Furthermore, it isanticipated that Japanese companies will be able to participate in local supplychains in Southeast Asia and India, where the digitalization of supply chainsis progressing rapidly. As such, promoting open innovation and buildingpartnerships with the promising local startups that will be leading thedigitalization push from the early stages of their growth will be crucial toachieving these outcomes.

(2) About GV-4

Genesia mainly invests in digital businesses and some deep tech companies, withmore than 80 percent of its domestic investments made in the pre-seed/seedstage. Despite being a Japanese VC, it has established a solid position as arare entity that supports business and capital alliances between investeestartups in Southeast Asia and Japanese companies, as well as promoting collaborationbetween Japanese companies and local startups. It has also expanded into India.

Through GV-4, JIC will focus on pre-seed and seed stage investments, withthe aim of strengthening Genesia’s investment activities and supporting theJapanese startup ecosystem’s capacity to create global unicorns. In SoutheastAsia and India, JIC will strengthen its support for partnerships betweenJapanese companies and local startups, with the aim of helping Japanesecompanies create new businesses and expand into new markets.

In addition, JIC expects that by supporting promising startups that usedigital technology to provide services that address challenges specific todomestic industries, it can promote DX in industry.

Furthermore, by providing fund management support to Genesia, JIC will seekto expand the supply of risk capital from institutional investors through thefunds managed by the company over the medium to long term.

Objectives of JIC’s LPinvestments

1. Stimulate the supply of risk capital to helpcompanies grow and to enhance their competitiveness

JIC intends to provide capital to areas that areessential from the perspective of strengthening industrial competitiveness butlack private investment capital (investment strategies, sectors, stages,regions, etc.) with the aim of stimulating private investment capital in theshort term and medium-long term.

2. Create diverse investment teams, professionals, andstrategies to support a virtuous cycle of risk capital

1) Investmentteams

JIC promotes growth of the investee fundsas a leader in the intermediary of risk capital provided by institutionalinvestors (pension funds, foreign investors, etc.) towards the establishment offuture funds. This will be achieved by expanding experience and track recordsamong its fund investment team (management company) and by further improvingits ability to respond to institutional investors.

2) Investmentprofessionals

With the cooperation of industryorganizations such as JVCA, institutional investors, and investee managers, JICsupports the research and introduction of best practices of managers and thedevelopment of human resources serving as investment professionals.

3) Investmentstrategy

JIC will add diversity and depth to themarket by making an LP investment in funds even for those with strategies thatare not common in Japan yet, in response to their fund raising, including atthe time of its establishment.
