Tokyo, July 31, 2026 – Japan Investment Corporation(“JIC”) has announced its decision to make two LP investments worth a combined total of JPY4 billion: JPY2.4 billion in Globis Fund VIII, L.P. (“GCP8”) and JPY1.6billion in Globis Fund VIII-S, L.P. (“GCP8S”), both managed by Globis Capital Partners Co., Ltd. (“GCP”).
(1) About GCP8 and GCP8S
Since establishing its first fund in 1996, GCP has established a strong investment track record among domestic venture capital firms (VCs) through a proactive, hands-on investment approach. Leveraging its accumulated management know-how and track record, the firm has established a strong reputation in the market, allowing it to play a vital role in Japan’s startup ecosystem—including fostering the creation of unicorns.
GCP8 focuses on investing primarily in seed and early-stage companies with the potential to become global unicorns; GCP8S is intended to provide follow-on investments that support the further expansion of promising portfolio companies that are on a growth trajectory.

(2) Reason for Investment
Domestic market challenges:
・Support from domestic VCs capable of fostering unicorns
Fostering the creation of global unicorns requires not only a long-term, large-scale supply of risk capital but also requires domestic VCs to strengthen their capabilities to support the rapid growth of startups by leveraging the expertise and networks of global VCs.
・Supply of risk capital to the Deep Tech sector:
Deep Tech startups require a long period of time and substantial funding to progress from research and development to commercialization, but they often struggle to secure the funding they need.
・Raising funds from institutional investors:
The supply of capital from institutional investors to Japan’s Deep Tech sector remains insufficient; expanding the supply of risk capital from both domestic and international institutional investors over the medium to long term is a key challenge.
Expected impacts of this investment:
・Creation of role models for domestic VCs that foster unicorns:
GCP aims to foster the creation of global unicorns originating in Japan and is one of the few domestic VCs with a network of global VCs. JIC expects GCP to serve as a role model for domestic VCs that have overseas growth support capabilities comparable to those of global VCs, thereby helping to foster the creation of global unicorns originating in Japan.
・Expanded supply of risk capital to the Deep Tech sector:
GCP has a track record of investing in Deep Tech startups, and through GCP8 and GCP8S, it plans to continue investing in this sector and further strengthen its capabilities. Through this investment, JIC expects to contribute to the creation of Japanese Deep Tech startups that can compete in the global market.
・Increased supply of risk capital from institutional investors:
Beyond the catalytic effects of risk capital, the enhancement of governance and organizational structure with the support of JIC is expected to further expand the supply of risk capital over the medium to long term, including commitments from overseas institutional investors to successor funds.
